Ever considered an assignment in St. Louis, Missouri? Check out a few of these awesome establishments to explore when you make it there!

St Louis Missouri

St. Louis, gateway to the Midwest, home of the arch, this city is rich with culture and full of things to keep you busy around your nursing assignment. St. Louis is well known for its hospitality, ranking ninth in the “most generous cities,” polling back in 2013. You’ll have no problem meeting people here.

The city offers something for virtually everyone. Into sports? St. Louis has a championship baseball team, an NFL and NHL team, meaning there’s usually something going on downtown regardless of what season it is. The St. Louis Cardinals have won an impressive 11 World Series titles.

If you’re going to be in town, you should try to experience a game. Whether you like baseball or not, it’s a great introduction to a city that loves its pro sports teams.

Are you a foodie or just love to try new things? St. Louis is home to exceptional regional cuisine that reflects various immigrant groups, including toasted ravioli, provel cheese, buttery cake, the slinger (two eggs, hash browns, and a hamburger patty -or any other meat- covered in chili con carne -with or without beans- and topped with onions and cheese).

Another must try – The Gerber sandwich. It’s a half section of Italian or French bread, spread with garlic butter and topped with ham, and Provel or Provolone cheese, seasoned with a sprinkling of paprika and toasted.

Finally, you have to try the St. Paul sandwich – egg foo young patty (made with mung bean sprouts and minced white onions) served with dill pickle slices, white onion, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato on white bread. And of course, there’s St. Louis-style pizza, featuring thin crust and provel cheese.

Don’t miss desert! Sample the Ted Drewes “concrete,” which is frozen custard blended with any combination of dozens of ingredients.

And of course, there are plenty of other things going besides sports and food. St. Louis is home to over 100 parks, each with their own amenities like lakes, trails, sports facilities and picnic areas. Did you know Forest Park is actually twice the size of New York’s Central Park?

And if you just want to hit all the major touristy places, here’s a quick list of places you can’t leave St. Louis without experiencing:

  • Gateway Arch, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial  See for yourself the monument that represents the Westward Expansion of the US during the 19th century.
  • Three Sixty rooftop bar – 400 feet above St. Louis!  Features 360-degree views of downtown St. Louis including Busch Stadium, the Gateway Arch and the Mississippi river.
  • Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village entertainment district  Check out a Cardinals baseball game, or enjoy FREE outdoor Summer Yoga.
  • Budweiser Brewery Tours  Experience the entire brewing process, including a product sampling in the 1891 historic Brewhouse.
